My Top 10 Solutions to the Sulking:

  1. Meditation quiets the noise. Your mind can be racing with a million thoughts per minute. It feels like those thoughts translate to reality until you shift your focus to the one thing that we often take for granted, the air we breathe. That first inhale immediately buckles down on the present. The past is over and done with, and the future will never manifest without being present.
  2. I like to integrate meditation into my yoga practice and while doing cardio. Our bodies carry the tension that we create mentally, and that needs to be released. If you want to make it fun, then turn up the music and DANCE!
  3. Adventure is also relaxing to me. The adrenaline rush centers me quicker than meditation honestly. A favorite of mine is jumping into a beautiful body of water. You really cannot go wrong with cherishing your temple. It will thank you.
  4. Diet is another important factor. A girl can eat, and I don’t always choose the healthiest options. But, there’s nothing like a healthy gut. I feel the best when I am eating clean.
  5. In the same way that tension needs to be released, so do toxins. An annual colon detox feels like a reset, both mentally and physically, like I’m being given a brand-new body.
  6. Sometimes, I listen to something on the Calm app if I can’t sleep; Tamara Levitt and Jay Shetty throw down!
  7. Above all, silence and solitude provide solutions that only I can curate. I try to be mindful of how I’m communicating with myself, and mantras help me hold myself accountable.
  8. Just a few mantras that I like when I feel like I have no more energy to give: (1) An idle mind is a deadly mind. (2) Nothing worth having comes easy. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. (3) Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. (4) You aren’t stuck in traffic; you ARE the traffic. (5) Keep going.
  9. Talking through my thoughts aloud is therapeutic because sometimes I don’t realize how reckless I sound until they’re out in the open and repeat them back to myself.
  10. Pray, journal, and express gratitude for the little things. If you never appreciate where you are on your journey then why would you receive better?

If the life I am leading isn’t conducive to the person that I want to be then I probably need to make some changes. I’m dragging myself as I type this, but an instrument of catharsis is practicing forgiveness. No one’s perfect, and it’s easier to practice by keeping in mind that we are all doing our best and figuring things out one day at a time. A good starting point, if this is a struggle, is to focus on forgiving yourself. Sometimes, we aren’t aware of certain habits or tendencies until we see them demonstrated in others, but nothing has meaning until we assign it. It’s probably deemed meaningful because we internally resonate with it. Constantly question yourself and the world around you. Nothing about this thang called life is black and white, so incorporate balance into whatever it is you’re doing. Burnout quickly arises when we go from one extreme to the other. Most importantly, please find and stick to a moral compass. It’s easier to decide what we want once we’ve figured out what we don’t want. Another day of life is another day to make it right!
