Just Wanna Get to Know Myself

July Spill...

It’s been a minute, ainna? What a busy month for me. I visited family and enjoyed my first summer fish fry for the 4th. My meme’s neighbors had the whole neighborhood lit with fireworks.

I’ve been working out like crazy lately since Virgo season is quickly approaching, and the bikini bod won’t get here overnight. I finished  up with my colon detox, so that’s been making it easier to knock out the miles.

My dad turned The Big 60. My cousin and his wife also had a birthday a week apart, so we celebrated them both in the city. They were kids-free and definitely giving mom and dad gone wild.

I moved into a slightly bigger unit, and as someone who identifies as a wanderer in the sense that I don’t like planting my feet for too long, I welcome it, especially because it’s the same community with good management. On to the next, and I’m still figuring out how to articulate what the next is. “Things I’m longing for, someday I’ll be bored of.”

I got a cyst removed from my back which was my first rendezvous with stitches – not a fan.

The highlight of the month was seeing the one, the only, the goddess herself, Jhené Aiko, in concert. I saw her in the summer of 2015 with Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg, and it was beautiful to witness the growth in her artistry. The stage presence, the vocals, the guest performances, and everything else were a 10/10. I always love seeing 2 Chainz live and am impressed with how quickly he gets us on our feet. The only downside is that I looked forward to seeing Kiana Ledé perform. Kiki Deluxe is one of my favorite albums, and from my YouTube searches, she sounds even better in person. Well, miss mamas was nowhere to be found.

I went to my friend’s art exhibition featuring pieces created by solely black women. The pieces ranged from clay sculptures to paintings to collages. I discovered a black, woman-owned plant and candle shop during the outing. As a plant mama, I am here for all the good vibes.

One of my friends from middle school came into town for a pool party, so we had some fun in the sun. Life just keeps getting busier, so from family to friends, it’s always heartwarming to play catch up. I must have partied too hard in my early twenties because the opportunity presented itself multiple times for me to go out for a night on the town, yet the bed kept calling my name. I did enjoy the pregame so that counts for something. Sometimes, that’s better than the function itself.

On Friday night, we had a false fire alarm at 3 AM, and my neighbors’ reactions had me rolling! We were all gathered in the lobby looking dazed and confused. From some taking the elevator, which is advised against, to others complaining about being woken up like our lives weren’t potentially at risk, it was a time to remember, for sure.

The kiddies go back to school next week, and fall will be here in no time. It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year. How have you been percolating and are you ready to head into Q3?
