Ever Tried?

Dust Yourself Off &...

  1. Take a new dance class. From salsa to pole to aerial yoga (it doesn’t really count as dance but you get the picture), they’re a way to let loose and enjoy the moment. If you want something less physical, try a pottery class or sip-n-plant.
  2. Try a new restaurant. For the foodies, this is always my go-to. Luckily, there are pictures and reviews to help narrow down the options. Sometimes, I go to the same restaurant to try a different item I didn’t try the first time.
  3. Learn a new language. More power to the people who aim to be fluent in a new language in a year or less. I am coming up on 18 months and feel nowhere close. I am better at reading than listening, but I am enjoying the process by taking it one day at a time. This is one tool that has allowed me to have the space to make mistakes and try again.
  4. Visit a park. Pick up a book, a guitar, or an ice cream cone, and get some fresh H2O. Go touch grass can be a shady phrase but once you’re in the sunlight, you’ll be glad that you did it. There’s been memorable concerts and festivals that I’ve attended in parks. The most recent was a live Latin symphony band with our lawn chairs and pups.
  5. Go for a drive. I love it when the GPS takes me on a scenic route or one where I can avoid the interstate. It may be a beautiful garden or even having reference points to remind me of somewhere nearby that stands out. Going back to #2, this is another way to find new restaurants to try and maybe even new places to shop.
  6. Be a part of the audience in a comedy show. Laughter is good for the soul, and even if it’s not a big fish who’s performing, there are open-mic events with up-and-coming performers who can keep you entertained.
  7. Pour into self-care. Nails, hair, yoga, facial, wax, laser, threading, exfoliation, mask, eyebrow tint, deep condition…the upkeep is a never-ending process so pick one.
  8. Play an escape room or a murder mystery dinner. Group activities are always icebreakers and help you take your mind off of whatever is unimportant.
  9. Volunteer or find a way to give back. This is something that I need to get better at doing and is one of my Q3 goals. I slacked off after college and am making it my mission to find my way again. I have had conversations with multiple people recently who have indirectly ignited me.
  10. Last but not least, find a way to improve mental discipline. This may be by doing a cleanse, cutting out a bad habit, adding to or switching up the routine, focusing on releasing baggage, or taking the next step anywhere in your healing process. Be kind to yourself and keep a few mantras in mind to guide you.

Reflection Points:

  1. How do you dust yourself off and try again?
  2. Have you tried any of the things I suggested? If so, what are your thoughts?
  3. Sometimes, the most important thing needed is rest and doing absolutely nothing. What does that balance look like for you?
